by Vivian F., Masternaut Candidate
Hello, my name is Vivian, and I have been a SCUBAnaut since 2014. I am currently working on my Masternaut project, which is a conservation or science project that a naut develops and produces in order to move up to the SCUBAnaut rank of Masternaut. My project is focusing on conservation, so I am creating a Florida Keys field guide. This field guide will consist of data on size, habitat, and abundance of fish species in the Florida Keys, complete with naut-taken photographs of these fish. Why am I doing this project? I want to make a field guide with pictures of fish that are not professional photographs. I feel that when someone looks at a field guide with professional pictures, it is hard for them to translate what they see in the book to the field due to natural variation in the water of color, visibility, and movement. When looking at a fish underwater it is not necessarily going to be crystal clear, up close, and have all the color added back into it. I am making a website where all of this can be accessed. It is a work in progress, but I hope to have it up by the new year.
